The Big Event 2013 is just around the corner and you are all invited to take part in what will be the premier Disability Event of the Year.
Held at the ASB Showgrounds on April 5th and 6th the event will again be a sell out with close to 100 exhibitors from all over New Zealand.
This year will be different to last year in that there will be three interactive events taking place during the Expo. A Sensory Space will be on show for the first time. This space will allow visitors to move through a designated course and experience sounds, feels and smells in a way that they may never have experienced before. This is going to be particularly interesting for able bodied people who do not know what it is like for a person who is blind or deaf.
Our Innovation section again will show products that people have created to help themselves out in their daily life. These “inventions” can be one offs’ that people have invented for themselves. It does not include items that are already in mass production. If you know anyone who has made themselves a new door opener or whatever, get them to contact the organisers and have their invention put on show.
We are negotiating to have a real glider in Hall 2 that is set up to take persons with disabilities. Hopefully we can give away a free ride to a lucky visitor or if you do want to part with terra firma you can offer your ride to someone more adventurous.
To top off the interactive events we will have a full blown curated Art Exhibition. I am told there were over 120 artists’ submitted works for this event. Over 50 pieces have been selected and will be shown off in all their glory. Each piece of Art whether it is a painting or a piece of pottery will have a story attached to it. Many of the pieces on show will be available to purchase after the event.
If you have nothing happening on Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th come on down to the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane and Celebrate Disability with us. Doors open at 10am on Friday until 4pm and 9/30am on Saturday until 4pm and its Free entry and Free parking.
